What A 3,000 Year Old Poem Has To Say About Trump, Clinton, & Modern Politics

As I read through the Pslams with the girls, I am often struck by how relevant they are to our modern political and cultural plight. This of course should not be surprising, since the human hand that penned them was inspired and directed by a divine author who has known us heart and soul since before the dawn of time.

Today I read Psalm 146. In this simple and short poem, the Psalmist – who likely lived roughly 3,000 years ago – shares many of the same concerns as us today. He mentions oppression and persecution, poverty, wrongful imprisonment, sickness and a need for healing, depression, immigration, bigotry, single mothers, and orphans.

Are these not the very issues facing our nation today? Continue reading “What A 3,000 Year Old Poem Has To Say About Trump, Clinton, & Modern Politics”

Chuck, If God Can’t Write A Book, He Can’t Save Your Soul

I recently came across an article on Patheos by Baptist Pastor Chuck Queen. He argues that, because there are horrifying, violent, and tragic verses in the Old Testament, God’s Word, The Bible, is erroneous and full of mistakes. He thinks that these painful verses – these terrible stories – couldn’t possibly be what a Loving God intended to write down.

The historic and Biblical Christian view is that the Bible is inerrant (without error). Pastor Queen thinks he’s being a “progressive” Christian, but actually his logic unravels the entire point, purpose, and meaning of Christianity. He may call himself a Christian (and I hope he is) but he’s pedaling a heresy that actually debunks Christianity at its very foundation. Response: 5 Optimistic Thoughts That Will Change Your Perspective On Life

In a recent article on Elite Daily, writer Miranda Athanasiou listed five “optimistic thoughts” that will supposedly change your perspective on life and turn you into a happier person. There’s just one problem. Most of her “optimistic thoughts” are superficial yet very popular lies. In fact, I’d venture to say that if you believe these lies, and live them out to their logical conclusion, you’re setting yourself up for a world of pain and confusion. I’ll go through them one by one and explain what I mean. Continue reading “Response: 5 Optimistic Thoughts That Will Change Your Perspective On Life”

Father’s Day For The Fatherless: Let This Bring You JOY!

I was about 11 years old when I realized that my dad didn’t love me. I remember praying and telling God, “You need to be my Father. You need to be my dad. If I don’t have a dad, I’m going to have a lot of problems when I turn into a teenager.”

I still had a lot of problems when I “turned into a teenager.” In fact, I wrestled with my past and with God until I was well into my twenties. I talked to pastors, therapists, friends, and family. Nothing seemed to heal my brokenness. I’d feel better for a little while, but then all the pain would come flooding back. It was difficult to go to church, because the sermons reminded me of all the promises of peace and love in the Bible that I didn’t see coming true in my life. Continue reading “Father’s Day For The Fatherless: Let This Bring You JOY!”

Dear Dad I Never Had: I Miss You. I Love You. Happy Father’s Day.

Dear Dad I Never Had,

As you know, we have never met. It’s not because I didn’t have a dad. I did. I had a biological father, but he didn’t love me. So, he wasn’t really a real dad, was he? But you were.

I imagined you.

I missed you.

I still miss you … every day. Continue reading “Dear Dad I Never Had: I Miss You. I Love You. Happy Father’s Day.”

A Christian Response To The Orlando Massacre & Christina Grimmie Shooting

The news out of Orlando this week has been both terrifying and heartbreaking. In addition to the Pulse nightclub massacre, Christian singer Christina Grimmie was shot while signing autographs after her concert.

The two stories are separate. The killers were different people with different beliefs and different agendas. The victims were diverse; of different religions, lifestyles, ages, and races. Nevertheless, they bear the similar thread of hate and seemingly spontaneous bursts of evil.

What do we say then? How do we process the injustice, cruelty, and heinous violence of such crimes? How do we comfort those who have lost loved ones? How do we find comfort for ourselves? Continue reading “A Christian Response To The Orlando Massacre & Christina Grimmie Shooting”

A Christian Response: Two Pastors Arrested in TN Sex Trafficking Operation

Today, a lot of people will mock Christians. They will say we are frauds, phonies, and hypocrites. They will say that Jesus Christ is a failure. They will say that salvation is a myth.

They are wrong. Continue reading “A Christian Response: Two Pastors Arrested in TN Sex Trafficking Operation”

P.G. Wodehouse, Bertie Wooster, & God

by Kevin DeYoung

P.G. Wodehouse (1881-1975) is hands down one of the best writers in the English language, ever. He isn’t profound. He isn’t penetrating. His books may not be dissected in lit classes. But his command of vocabulary and syntax is amazing and his humor is, unlikely other humorists, actually very, very funny. There’s nothing like unwinding with a little Jeeves and Wooster after a four hour elder meeting to get the old egg cracking again, what? Continue reading “P.G. Wodehouse, Bertie Wooster, & God”

How Target & The Left Abandoned Abuse Victims & PTSD Sufferers

Unless you live in a very deep dark cave in Antarctica, you’ve heard about the controversial stance Target has taken in permitting anyone to use any bathroom they choose. They claim they only want legit transgender people allowed to use whichever bathroom they feel the strongest emotional connection with. However, practically speaking, unless the government starts certifying transgender people (kinda like the the way disabled people are granted handicapped placards, or 21+ folks are hand-stamped at concerts where boos are being sold), Target employees are just going to have to let every Tom, Dick (no pun intended), and Harry into their ladies’ room for fear of being smeared as transphobic or bigoted.
